Mechanics of fingerprint impact on tactile and gripping function

February 14, 2014
How the mechanics of the fingertip impact the tactile and gripping function of the hand.

Abstract:

In the recent years there have been a number of new studies pertaining to the detailed mechanics of the human fingertip, which will be surveyed. It is believed that the rather counterintuitive mechanical and tribological properties of this organ play a major role in the hand extremities' prehensile, sensory, and behavioral capabilities. Several examples will be described in this seminar.
